5 Tips to Prepare for Tinting Your Car Windows

3 Minutes Posted on:

Tinted windows look cool on your vehicle, and they provide some relief from the sun. Tint can help protect your eyes, skin, and the vehicle's upholstery from the sun. But before getting the window tint, you need to do a little prep work. Keep these tips in mind.

1. Check local laws

States, territories, and even some cities have different laws about window tint. Make sure to research the laws where you live. If you're getting window tint in one area and moving to another area, make sure to check the laws in your destination.

2. Look for medical exemptions

If the law bans the type of tint you want to get, you may want to explore medical exemptions. For instance, if you have sensitivity to the sun, you may be able to get a medical exemption that allows you to get a darker tint than allowed by law.

3. Decide which windows you want to tint

Do you want tint on the front and back side windows? Or just the back windows? If you live in an area where you're allowed to add tint to the front windscreen, do you want to do that? To get ideas, you may want to do an image search of your make and model of vehicle with window tint.

4. Narrow in on the amount of tint

Once you decide where you want the tint, you need to decide on the level of tint. Window tint is measured as a percentage. The higher the percentage, the darker the tint. Most window tint specialists have samples that they can show you so that you can see how dark it's going to look. You also have to consider the amount allowed by law.

5. Choose a window tint material

You can use several different types of materials to tint car windows. Different window tinters offer different options, but the main choices include ceramic, carbon, metallic, hybrid, or dyed.

Ceramic, carbon, metallic, and hybrid tins are all applied as liquids or creams that dry on the windows. They all absorb UV rays and prevent glare. Ceramic provides additional protection against breakage. Carbon creates a matte finish on your windows.

Metallic tints are a little less expensive than carbon, but they have a reflective look. Carbon doesn't look like a mirror. Hybrid tints feature a mixture of metallic, ceramic, or carbon finishes. Dyed tint features an adhesive layer with a polyester topcoat of dye. It's often the least expensive and the easiest to remove.

To learn more, contact a company that does window tint in your area. They often offer mobile services so that you can get the tint done while you're at work or without leaving home.

About Me

Getting Your Car Windows Fixed: A Guide Hello! My name is Tom and this is my new blog. Last month, I was driving down to my parent's beach house on the coast near Sydney when all of a sudden a massive hailstorm started. The weather hadn't been looking too good but I didn't expect what happened next. The balls of hail which fell from the sky were big enough to smash and crack the front and back windows on my car. Thankfully, I was able to get in touch with a professional mobile glass repair company. They sent someone out right away who replaced the damaged glass. I learnt lots of cool things from the contractor. I hope you like my blog.
